California Department of Water Resources
Manages water resources of California in cooperation with other agencies.
Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Water
This federal agency develops drinking water regulations and standards for adoption of the state. Jurisdiction for enforcement is delegated to the California Department of Health Services.
North Coast Regional Water Quality
This state agency, under the California Water Resources Control Board, develops regulations to protect water quality in streams and rivers. The staff oversees point (treatment plant discharges) and non-point (septic and percolation systems) wastewater discharges. The water board delegated control of septic systems to local environmental health departments.
State Water Resources Control Board – Division of Drinking Water
The Division of Drinking Water (DDW) regulates public drinking water systems.
